What is the best video editing software?

avid pro if you dont mind spending a lot of money.
adobe’s premiere is very good (a close second).
if you get the full version of either of these, then codecs come as part of the package (they are what support multiple file tyeps).

depending on what i am aiming for i use , sonic mydvd, windows built in movie maker, and my fave Nero. for converting between formats anydvdconverter.com is great.
