how many of you think the commander responsible for the loss of those 3 servicemen should be relieved of duty?
mr conservative asked:
I think that the local commander that approved that operation should be relieved of command and thrown out of the service for gross incompetence. No force should be deployed without immediate aircover and rescue being available. PERIOD With all the night vision equipment availble the eye in the sky should always have things under control. We spend billions and yet some yoyo failed to protect our troops.

Your possibly the most ignorant person on Yahoo Answers. Without knowing a single thing about this unit, what they were doing and what happened you’ve instantly assumed that somebody was at fault?

The ultimate responsibility is that of the commander-in-chief, the original genuine loyal Bushie, himself, GWB. Not to mention all those who have died and forever maimed.

Ma’am, I’m not one to normally answer a question with a question, but who are you to make that call? Have you ever been in a convoy? Have you ever been on a patrol? Have you EVER even set foot in hostile territory? Ground commanders and NCO’s make the best decisions they can based on the the circumstances they are under to accomplish the mission, and it isn’t always an easy one. Unless you have the experience and skills to confidently say that you would have done it better, then please refrain from making any judgement at all.

Politicians are making those decisions – if you think the Commanders on the ground have many options, I think you’re mistaken. I doubt they get what they need. What a mess. Another 20 yrs. wouldn’t make a difference over there.

1st off have you ever served in the military?
You make it sound so easy

1. Obviously you have never been in the military.
2. We don’t even know the exact circumstances of what happened.
3. You are apparently one of those people who always has to have someone to blame.

I guess it is so easy to criticize from the safety of your parents home.
Things are rather more difficult on the ground.
In case you have not noticed there is a group of people in Iraq called ‘the enemy.’ They are trying to kill our troops and occasionally, they get lucky.

From what I have seen and heard on the news, they were on patrol and got ambushed. The ones that survived were taken prisoner. The animals that took them will very likely kill them. It’s sad and I don’t blame you for being upset but it’s called “war”. In war a lot of terrible things happen. It’s just the way it is.
The people on the ground have to make difficult decisions in difficult circumstances. The commander of that unit did not send his troops out into an ambush on purpose. That’s why they are ambushes; they are a surprise, very brief and very violent. So to hold anyone responsible for this is insane.
Please don’t Monday morning quarterback the situation unless you have been in it yourself.

It’s not as easy as you think, DUH!!!

It seems that You are being blamed for being shortsighted for posing this question but I think You are aiming the question at the upper echelon of the military for not using tools available to protect the troops. The regimental commander should never have permitted the troops to deploy without an air umbrella which should include satellite infra red detection. We have the ability to track migrant birds but fail to use our resources to protect our troops. That is insane.
